West Bengal Sees Sweeping IPS Reshuffle Across Police Formations
West Bengal's major IPS reshuffle reshapes leadership across police formations, Kolkata Police, specialised units, and range offices.
The West Bengal government has carried out a comprehensive reshuffle of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, affecting a large number of senior positions across the state's police formations, specialised units, and the Kolkata Police. Among the notable movements, Rajesh Kumar Yadav has been shifted to the Special Task Force (STF) as Inspector General of Police (IGP), while Rishikesh Meena takes on the IGP (Organisation) role within West Bengal Police. Sabya Sachi Raman Mishra has been posted as IGP at the Barrackpore Armed Police (AP). Several senior officers have moved within the Kolkata Police establishment: Dip Narayan Goswami joins as Additional Commissioner of Police (CP), while Kunal Agarwal takes charge as Additional CP (Crime). Murali Dhar is posted as IGP, Intelligence Bureau (IB), a strategically significant appointment. Specialised formations have also seen movement: Sukesh Kumar Jain as IGP, Central Coordination Wing (CCW); Gaurav Sharma to STF; U.K. Naskar to Correctional Services; Farhat Abbas to Training; Swapan Sarkar to the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB); and Arnab Ghosh to Coastal Security. A second tier of transfers covers DIG and SP levels, with officers such as Amitabh Maiti moving to Medinipur Range, Abhishek Modi to Bankura Range, and Indra Chakravorty to CID. Range-level positions have also been reassigned across northern and eastern Bengal, reflecting a comprehensive rationalisation of senior leadership. The scale of the reshuffle suggests a deliberate effort by the state government to recalibrate its police leadership across both operational and administrative functions.
