Anupam Sharma Appointed DIG, ITBP

Anupam Sharma has been appointed Deputy Inspector General in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police on deputation. He is a 2009-batch IPS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre.

ITBP is the lead force guarding India's border with China along the Himalayan frontier, operating posts at altitudes that range up to over 18,000 feet and working closely with the Army in forward areas under its operational mandate.

Sharma's home cadre of Himachal Pradesh borders Tibet along a stretch of the Indo-China frontier, giving an officer from that cadre relevant regional familiarity with the terrain ITBP operates in, though his specific posting within the force has not been disclosed.

ITBP's deployment pattern along the China border has been adjusted periodically in response to infrastructure development on both sides of the boundary, with additional posts established in some sectors in recent years.

As with other central armed police force deputations, Sharma's move to ITBP at the DIG rank follows the standard career stage at which state cadre IPS officers take up central postings after building seniority in their home state.

His specific area of responsibility within ITBP — whether a frontier sector, training establishment, or headquarters role — will be determined by the force's internal posting order following his deputation.

The appointment is on a deputation basis, as per the order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
