Karnataka Appoints Dr. Pronab Mohanty as DGP CID and Dr. Chandragupta as Intelligence Chief
Karnataka appoints 1994-batch IPS officer Dr. Pronab Mohanty as DGP CID and 2006-batch Dr. Chandragupta as IGP Intelligence in key security reshuffle.
The Karnataka government has issued posting orders for two senior Indian Police Service officers, placing experienced commanders at the top of the state's Crime Investigation Department and intelligence apparatus in a focused realignment of its internal security hierarchy. Dr. Pronab Mohanty, a 1994-batch IPS officer, has been appointed Director General of Police (DGP) for CID, Special Units and Economic Offences, based in Bengaluru. To maximise inter-departmental efficiency against digital threats, Mohanty has been concurrently placed in charge of DGP Cyber Crimes, CID — consolidating the state's economic investigative and digital forensics machinery under a single senior commander. Dr. Chandragupta, a 2006-batch IPS officer, has been directed to assume full charge as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Intelligence, in Bengaluru. He brings regional policing and tactical counter-intelligence experience to the state's primary information collection and threat analysis wing, where he will lead strategic internal security coordination. Security analysts observe that integrating the economic offences and cybercrime portfolios under Dr. Mohanty is a timely structural response to the rise of sophisticated corporate financial fraud and complex digital crime networks in Karnataka's technology-driven economy. His seniority and specialisation position him to lead coordinated crackdowns across both spheres. Dr. Chandragupta's appointment as Intelligence Chief provides the state administration with a tested field officer capable of maintaining law and order across urban commissionerates and managing security intelligence along sensitive border districts. Together, the two appointments strengthen Karnataka's capacity to address both conventional and emerging internal security challenges.
