Shailendra Kumar Rawat Moves from NR to WCR as Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer

Shailendra Kumar Rawat, an Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) officer, has been transferred from Northern Railway (NR) to West Central Railway (WCR), where he has been posted as Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer (PCME). He was previously serving as Chief Mechanical Engineer (CME) at Northern Railway. The PCME is the apex mechanical engineering position within a zonal railway, responsible for the overall maintenance and upkeep of locomotives, rolling stock, coaches, wagons, and related equipment. The role involves overseeing a large team of mechanical engineers and technicians, managing maintenance schedules, and ensuring rolling stock availability to support train operations across the zone. West Central Railway, headquartered in Jabalpur, operates across Madhya Pradesh and parts of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Rawat's posting to WCR as PCME represents an elevation in responsibility from his previous role as CME at NR, moving him to the top of the mechanical engineering hierarchy in his new zone. His transfer is part of a coordinated reshuffle of IRSME officers across railway zones, reflecting the standard practice of rotating senior officers between zones to bring in fresh perspectives and balance experience across the system. Rawat is expected to assume charge at WCR shortly, where he will be responsible for managing one of the key operational and maintenance challenges facing the zone — including fleet availability for the heavily trafficked Central Railway corridor.
